SS15 PRINTS FOR ALL GOTS
While her all-black uniform has probably been second to none
this winter, as the weather clears (albeit slowly), it's time to inject some
color into her daytime outfit.
However, there is the ability to incorporate bold colors
into a previously monochromatic wardrobe. There's a fine line between adding a
pop of color and looking like a Pantone Color of the Year catalog (by the way,
2015's shade of choice is Marsala). So take it easy, start small and work your
way up.
Layering printed clothing under solid staples (think
outerwear or knitwear) will help control a particularly vivid pattern, or you
can try placing a centerpiece on a dark background to really shine. Printing shouldn't
be a shock to the system; start working on individual items now to boost your
confidence and prepare for the warmer months to come.
But where do you look for these printed pieces? To point you
in the right direction, we've listed six couture brands known for their use of
prints and colors, as well as their flagship design for Spring / Summer 2015:
HENTSCH MEN SS15 - FLOWERS
This British brand bridges the gap between streetwear and
contemporary menswear.
Taking jungle wallpaper to task, Hentsch Man's “La Cantina”
collection for Spring / Summer 2015 got a taste of wildlife in a daring way.
Ideal to nail the great floral trend of the season.

MOSCHINO SS15 - COQUE DIET X WELCH GRAPE JUICE
Jeremy Scott's mind-blowing mix of Diet Coke cans and Welch
Grape Juice Tetra Paks for Moschino SS15 will be too much for a print newbie.
Scott has only a handful of collections to his credit at the helm of the designer's brand, but this overworked show fits in perfectly with his usual antics on his eponymous brand.
One for the OTT consumer, and with the tongue firmly planted
on the cheek, is certainly what people are referring to when they use the term
"statement item." Would you dare to wear?

HUNTER GATHERER SS15 - SOUL-BOY PRINT
Creative Director David Bradshaw continues to blur the lines
between higher art and lower art, with a nod to famous cutouts by French artist
Matisse and multi-colored prints by American artist Keith Haring.
Hunter Gatherer Soul-boy's silhouettes for SS15 set the
stage for something interesting and rare: a fashionable opportunity not to take
herself too seriously.

ACNE SS15 - STARS AND STRIPES
Especially for today's maverick, Acne's oversized SS15 tee
with graffiti stars exudes serious old-fashioned demeanor without having to
illegally trash public property. Elsewhere, the blue chambray shirt with thick
green stripes references the season's signature colourway and adds a
contemporary twist to a classic pattern.
It's not often that Jonny Johansson, creative director and
co-founder of the brand, weaves patterns into Acne's normally very basic collection; he did it subtly in Fall / Winter 2014 in the nifty black camo
shirt (now on sale), but when he does it, he does it very well.

ONE SS15 SWIMSUIT - HYBRID PRINT
Building on their fun streetwear philosophy, A Bathing Ape's
SS15 collection exudes effortless freshness and is ideal for casual dressing
rooms.
Combining a rainbow camo print with solid squares for their
patchwork coat and shorts set, BAPE offers a more urban take on the '70s trend.
Elsewhere, a hybrid polka dot / flower print has been applied to a raincoat.
Lightweight and a sweatshirt, both of which would be a solid addition to any
off-duty wardrobe.

TOPMAN DESIGN SS15 - VINTAGE FLOWERS
Drawing inspiration from 1970s Woodstock for the collection,
Topman Design's Gordon Richardson shipped everything from waxed sunflower
shirts to intricate berry-patterned outerwear on the SS15 runways.
Adding a vintage twist to the ever-popular floral print
trend, these oversized flowers are sure to catch your eye when the weather is
nice.
